Best of Brands

lg_new_coke_logo.jpgAccording to Interbrand's annual list of the Best 100 Global Brands, Coca-Cola is once again the world's most valuable brand. IBM moved up to numero 2, knocking Microsoft to third, with GE and Nokia coming in fourth and fifth, respectively.

Technology brands saw the greatest brand growth over the past 12 months: Google is up 43%; Apple, up 24%; Amazon, up 19%; and Nintendo, up 13%.

And it's certainly no surprise that three financial players were among the five brands with the biggest year-over-year drops in brand value: Merrill Lynch fell 21%; Morgan Stanley, 16%; and Citi, 14%.

The CEO of Interbrand New York, Andy Bateman, noted that the losers in all categories generally didn't keep up with consumer trends. “Strong and weaker brands all use research to try to stay in touch with their customers. But the winning brands can innovate quickly and bring fresh ideas to market,” said Mr. Bateman.

Where does your brand fit in? Are you keeping up with consumer trends and bringing fresh ideas to the table? Or do you continue to rely on what’s worked in the past?
